Another revered piece of AOR is this southern tinged effort from Memphis rocker Jimmy Davis. Not a lot known about him prior to this release but he gets a bit of assistance from some well known names in the rock biz, including guitarist Joe Walsh (Jojo Gunne, Eagles etc), and ex Cobra man Jack Holder, who also handles the production duties in conjunction with Don Smith. Why is it revered you ask? Well, it's got hooks, exceptional melodies in the right places, and the keyboards and guitars compliment each other to perfection. Added to that the breathy vocal style of Davis over the top of it and you get a classic cocktail of AOR.

Salute is the debut album by AOR band 21 Guns. It was released in 1992. Artwork on the album was directed by Hugh Syme. Legendary debut from ex-THIN LIZZY guitarist Scott Gorham, and vocalist Thomas La Verdi. Memorable songs (from strong rockers to emotional ballads), huge harmonies, great hooks and a big/polished production is what you can expect from this classic recording. Similar to 80s Arena Rock acts like GIANT and TYKETTO, with touches of classy AOR a'la STRANGEWAYS and DARE. A great disc!
