Following the highly successful 2006 tour by John Lees' Barclay James harvest, keyboard player Woolly Wolstenholme completed work on his fourth studio album. A stunning work in a modern "progressive" style, it evokes the "classic" sound of BJH whilst adding a harder edge which is all Wolstenholme's own. Raven Sad was born from an idea of italian multinstrumentalist Samuele Santanna. He published two albums as a solo project with Lizard Records, “Quoth” in 2008, with a folk and dark touch style, and “We are not alone”, more spacy and ambient, in 2009, with Samuele playing almost every instruments, focusing on guitars, synth and some vocal parts.

Fish On Friday is a Belgian duo consisting of William Beckers (keyboards) and Frank Van Bogaert (keyboards, vocals). With guest musicians they recorded in 2010 the well-received debut album Shoot The Moon. Great melodic symphonic neo-prog from Belgium. Pink Floyd and Moody Blues meets Alan Parsons Project and Phideaux. Beautiful harmony vocals (Frank's voice is reminiscent of David Gilmour), and great symphonic songs.

Windchase was founded by guitarist/vocalist Mario Millo and keyboard player Toivo Pilt, both survivors of the recently dissolved Sebastian Hardie. Symphinity continues along the same symphonic and highly melodic trail that Sebastian Hardie, blazed through the Australian music scene: Millo's Latimer-influenced guitar leads splatter against Pilt's grandiose keyboard walls while the rhythm section keeps things cooking nicely, propelling rather than leading things.

As far as Progressive rock is concerned, most of the criticisms heard during the last thirty years insist on the show-off virtuoso side of it, with a lack of emotions, sort of a technical window for musicians with incredible egos. This was actually one of the major arguments of the punk wave during the second half of the Seventies that had set as a goal (If they ever had one...) to get rid of the "Dinosaurs" that YES, GENESIS, EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER and others had become.

"Quoth" is a production that should appeal to most people looking for mellow, carefully assembled psychedelic progressive rock, in particular if intrigued by dark and slightly unnerving moods and atmospheres. The compositions as such are mostly innovative and at times really creative, and even though it has a few weak points this is an album that can be heartily recommended.
